    March 2017 - What's on your workbench?

Holy moly. When I read your comment I had to go back and look at the sign... I think I skimmed over the 48x80" comment the first time around... I was thinking how is it possible that sign is that HEAVY!?!

    March 2017 - What's on your workbench?

Fun project, the darks (fin rays, spot, angler scene) are all carved in... kinda reverse relief I guess. https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2865/33444639186_804075f66a_c.jpg

    Question for oil birds

I have some decoys I've painted in the last year or so that for materials reasons (frond, balsa) I've used marine epoxy as a sealer first. The paint scratches off those birds way too easy. The birds that are just layers of oil paint over wood are very durable.

carving weekend at my place: success!

We had a decoy carving weekend at my place this last weekend. It was a learning weekend, not a quantity weekend, so you won't see lots of pictures of finished decoys :D We planned to carve a couple heads Saturday, and get redheads painted over the course of the weekend that I had already...

Rescuing A Rail Skiff *Updated with text and pics*

Even though it's work, I like poling, keeps me honest and gives me some exercise. Besides after a couple hours you'd feel guilty and swap :D

    Finding Decoys on the Water

I wanted to do a hunt with only the decoys I have found, but since they're plastic I lost interest and now I'm not sure which ones were the "found" decoys and which were given to me early in my hunting career. I lost a decoy I made a couple seasons ago. It was found by a guide, the guides...

    Sinking decoy line...

Exactly... see also (google) Texas Rig... there are a couple of varieties, one where the weight slides on the line, they don't always slide. So I use a fixed line. Crimp weight onto the line, put a snap swivel on the line, snap swivel to your keel. BTW 400# mono is almost universally used...

    small carving shop.

Unless you truck your paints back and forth from the house you may not like it with oil paint. Tends to be too soupy in the summer for me and too stiff in the winter. I finally stopped painting in the shop and just made a dedicated space inside the house.

Where's the November "What's on your Workbench"?

Keith I really dig the left carving marks on the breast of that bird! I haven't carved a duck in a while, but it is wood, it is a bird, does this count?

    Extreme mediocrity post & pics.

Derek, haha! My shop looks a lot like your first two pictures, except I'm more of a hoarder and have three overstuffed, dusty shelves with things stacked at precarious angles :D Love the post.
