OK, I am new to carving, never carved a decoy before. When you draw up a pattern, how do you know what size to make it? The length, width of the body and head. Is there a book that gives dimensions of the different species? Do you guys just "wing it"? :):)

Anybody running a BBIII or similar hull design. How much ice do you feel comfortable breaking with your rigs. I used 2 layers of 6oz cloth on my hull and was just wondering before I head out this weekend as I will certainly be breaking ice to get to my best spots. Salt ice that is.......
