2 cycle oil mixing....

Any good gizmos out there to measure oil out? I'm finding myself mixing lots of little batches lately (gallon or less) where I only need a couple ounces of oil and there has to be something out there that works well and is convenient.

Or should I keep using my old measuring cups?

You can find at any automotive store, marine store, even Walmart a mixing bottle. It has all the different mixing ratios on in. The standard 50:1 does up from 1 - 20 gals

Tod,

While I find this container works great for small batches of 2 stroke mix, I do not recommend their oil. I saved the container and use a premium blend oil when mixing for my motors. Just squeeze the bottle and the oil rises to the top measuring area. It is accurate down to 1 oz.

If you can find them, plastic baby bottles work great. Also you can carry a measured amount for 1 or 2 gallons, big help if you have to mooch some off of a four stroke because of course they don't use hardly any gas and always have some to spare:) Last time I tried to find some all I could find were glass. Also there is a "gismo" called a Ratio Rite that has all the numbers on the side of a pitcher looking thing. Good luck

Todd,
get a measured cylinder out of the lab.

I have a tapered cup that I got at the motorcycle shop that does a good job on the small batches for chainsaws.

The big bottle shown above works for the boat and keeps the mess out of the dry box.

It was easier to mix gas for my dads old Johnson, no need to measure in ounces, it was 1/2 pint oil to a gal. of gas. LOL

Hey all, thanks for the feed-back. It seems that I'm not in the dark ages afterall. I have the container that Dave showed, but I was hoping for something more fancy and accurate (no that absolute accuracy is needed). For the little amounts I make those bottles just seem large.

John, I have several of those dispensers and use them, they work well when they are filled with what you want. I didn't think about cleaning and refilling with the desired stuff.

For me a super solution would be a big syringe with a screw thread the size of a oil bottle on the tip (rather than a needle or spout). Screw it on the bottle, invert, draw oil out and dispense. A cap to put on the syringe would be nice too to keep the dust out between uses. I could make one I know, but I don't want to.

Again thanks. Always learn something.

I bought something real nice for small amounts of oil/gas mixing. You can buy it from any number of places. Bought it for when we used to have dirt bikes.

If the link doesn't work, the product is called Ratio Rite from Kam Technologies in California.

Here is a syringe you mention

tod,
you mention syringes.
Let me tell you whether it is cath tip, luer lock, it does not matter in the long run.

For the most part, depending on cycles of use, the little black stopper and the plastic in them get affected and will "stick" and soften badly. Great for single use, or several uses in a period of time, but if you try to "save" them for over 6 months and don't use them regularly, you will be disappointed. I use them with a bent 16 g. needle for my trim tilt on my wife's ski boat since the pump is on the transom in a very difficult position, and if I try to save them past about 6 months I am usually regretting it. They work, just know they have limited life and get a bunch.

Work well for small amounts of epoxy too...

Ha, good advice. I wasn't going there today, but I was thinking. I did see the same advice on a web search.

I'm thinking a calibrated dispenser for high viscosity liquids - should be about a grand.

Go to an Evinrude dealer.... they should have one that has a cone in the base and graduated (molded in not inked on) for different ratios and ounces. sorry no picture.... You can easily pour in for your fuel/oil mix then find the OZ column and add the correct amount of additive....
