2 stroke motor question?

on a 2 stroke motor can you run a canister style combo fuel filter /water seperator?will it separate the premix causing the motor to run lean on oil.
thanks for any info

Not only can you, but you definately should. I have fuel/water separater filters on two two stroke motors. I just emptied a bunch of water and dirt out of my duck boat filter and replaced the filter. It's been in there for 3-4 years. Never had a problem with the filter in my 115 Johnson and I check it periodically for water. They are cheap insurance as water in the fuel is major cause of piston problems.

The marine filters will not seperate out the mixed 2-stroke oil, no worries there.
I always mount the Racor brand filter assemblies with the see thru bowl, that way I can visually see if the filter starts showing signs of water or gunk in the fuel system.

Yep, sure can and on any boat big enough to fit one, I highly reccomend it.
Back when I had an offshore center console, the seperator/filter saved my butt from being towed in more than once. Had a problem with water getting in the tank that took a little while to figure out. I started carrying an extra filter and a bucket with me. If the motor started sputtering, I would change it out, & drain the old one. A some days I pulled a couple of cups of water out of filters. FInally figured out I had a vent turned forward & flapper worn out, was taking a little water every time a wave washed down the hull. After I fixed that, it took a tank or two of gas to get most of the water out of the tank. Always carried a spare filter from then on. Would have pulled & replaced the tank but that meant taking the console off & opening up the floor to get to the 50 glln tank. Not fun & the seperator was doing its job.

Jamestown distributors are having a fuel system sale, got the email flier today.

I have a racor with the drain bowl on my boat. Seems to work well.
