2007 Michigan Goose Hunt

This is what I was looking at as the sun came up yesterday morning



A friend of a friend had a guided hunt from a DU banquet auction and someone dropped out. My buddy said, "I know who we can call" and that was that. Cool decoys, cool layout blinds, a fun bunch of knowledgeable waterfowlers, 3/4 mile from Lake St. Clair in a corn stubble still holding lots of corn on the ground...only one thing was missing...geese. Didn't see a single one, not even in the distance, even though the golf courses are full of them here right now

Damn local geese! The only way to get them is to have a complete freezeout so the only open water is outside the city/village limits. I think most of the geese around here are 15 years old and know every trick in the book. There was three of them standing in the field behind my house this morning..the farmers wife won't even let HIM hunt them on their property since she saw a show about how they mate for life...I told her that usually, if you shoot one of a pair..the other will come back and you can shoot that one too so the mental anguish for them doesn't last too long....she never did like me...
