Joe, just think what an old Buffalo Hunter out on the plains of Montana whould have given to have one of these.....

Check out the neat built in folding peep sight in the grip and the extra set of 12 bore barrels on this old Purdey .45/70 double rifle/12 bore cased combo gun. It's offered by Hollowell & Co. in Livingston, Montana. Sweet old gun and the price is right. I can just see Steve Sutton showing up at one of those Montana long range steel silouette shoots with this. What a fun gun to own.

Dave,Great gun whatever.Site shows a 45-70 & 28ga by H&H not Purdy.I wonder what the drops are.I also wonder what the original selling price was and who the buyer was.I had a chance once to shoot a H & H
470 nitro double gun offhand. Can't remember if I enjoyed it very much.
I dont think an old Buffalo hunter would trade his Sharps 45-70 or 45-90 for the H & H though. One day I'm going to go into one of thoes Hi Grade showrooms and handle all the great SxS I can, just to see what I have missed in my life.

Correct! I have to stop looking at so many guns. I had just been looking at a Purdey 12 bore cased set and I guess it was still on my mind. I hope this weather clears up before you head N/W to pick up your new duck boat. Just wait for a break is about all you can do.

I heard that my buddy Bob Houk got hung up in MN on his way back from England due to the blizzard conditions. Maybe he can get out while there to shoot some DRIVEN SNOWFLAKES, hehe.

You know it really gets to me when I see the weather in Miles City, Montana has been better AND warmer than here where I live. Oh well, it's fun to look out the window and see all the wood ducks on the little pond here next to the house, but this freezing rain coming down all day kinda sucks!

Hey Parks, I finally made it home after a 7 hour delay in MN. Had to spend the night in Portland and fly out this morning. Had a wonderful trip. Could not beleive all the pheasants their.

Heck, from what Hironaka said, I figured you'd be stuck in MN. 'til springtime! Did you fly into K-Falls or Medford? 140 has been pretty snowy since you left. It snowed here all day today. The honkers and wood ducks were pounding on the back door once they noticed the smoke coming out of the chimney.

I know you probably shot hundreds of pheasants, but what I want to know is.....how did your luncheon meeting with the Queen go at Buckingham Palace? Did you talk game guns with her and did she show you her favorite Purdey Royal Grade .28 ga. SXS?

Nice to be home huh? I bet you'll be driving all over Medford looking for fish & chips in a newspaper now?

Call ya in the morning.

What a pair...
Shoot birds in the am and anything that walks on these shores in the afternoon, all before tea.
I hope you did not take my, "Purdy" comments in the Zumbo debate as being aimed at the gun maker itself.
The thought of owning a gun made before the 1920's with the level of detail that they put into them has always been on my mind after I saw one in person. Someday.... Boy do I miss my subscription to the Double Gun Journal. Good luck on your quest to get your hands on one.

Not to worry Bob. I received a letter from Purdey and they have put your name back on their perspective buyers list. :^)

The only way I will ever own a Purdey is if I find one in the corner at a garage sale. Like one of the ads in Shooting Sportsman say's "The most popular selling shotgun in England, is made in Spain". There has to be ultra expensive guns, cars and castles..........otherwise the rich would be bored with each other.

The trouble I find with life is.....I have the hunger for a Piotti shotgun, but I'm on an 870 diet. :^)

Dave, here's what you can do,sell your spread and all guns valued below 2000.Buy a lot in Montana ,another in NM,get a big 5th wheel and travel between locations to hunt. With the excess Million ,buy two Purdys and two Piotti's.They both make hammer guns.Need to hurry on the Purdy 20ga.Anything left over is for accesories, maybe 1/4 mil.

Onliest trouble is Joe.......I'm getting too old to be ordering guns that are several years on back-order to get made. Funny you mentioned New Mexico. I was just on the phone tonight with my buddy Rick Ketcham and he said that we would probably be better off looking for a place in S/W N.M. to put our trailers instead of Arizona. He's hunted both and prefers N.M. for Merans & Cotton-tops. He said there are less huntersa and when he does hunt Arizona he goes to the San Carlos Indian Reseration because all you need there is an Indian hunting license ($50) and not an Arizona license.

Most of the snow storms seem to be over now and it looks like it's going to warm up into the 50's this week-end. Maybe Judy and I can shoot some clays then.

Hope you got a few of those 9 Bobwhites you had left. What gun is that .410 of yours? I wish I was closer to you, I'd take that drive with you to pick up your new boat. I'll give you a call this weekend if I can find where I put your phone number?
