A new all time record - can anyone beat this?

Was sitting out n the rain this morning waiting for sunrise and out comes another boat. They keep coming near me and I think it may be someone I know. They drive by and stop exactly 20 yards from me and right in my shooting alley and downwind of me (I laser them). I ask if that is where they plan to hunt and they say yep. I informed them that 20 yards wasn't far enough and they said this was the best spot on this lake to hunt. I said yep it was and I was here an hour before them. I'm always the guy who moves and this time I'm not. Looks like I'll just get wet today.

So, can anyone beat 20 yards?

Geez Mark, I hope they moved and didn't ruin your hunt. I hunted a spot last Saturday and was there early and when I got down to my spot, somebody had come in from the other end with a canoe and planted right where I wanted to be. I politely asked if my gang (4 of us) could set up off to the right quite aways and he said "sure, no problem". I shot three woodducks (the limit) with three shots, my youngest got his first drake woodduck and the other guys got a pair a piece. The guy who had set up before us got a couple too and had plenty of shots. We met up with him later, apologized for coming in on him, thanked him and everyone had a great day. Hope your day ended up as well.

That is impressive, sorry to hear it.

We have too many hunting laws, but minimum distance between blinds is not a bad thing to have.

We have a 100 yard minimum here and it is actually pretty nice to have. Huinting in NY and WI and not having a minimum it was an issue at times. I love starting the morning giving some asswipe a talking to, really sets the mood for a great peaceful day on the water. I'm sure we could fill the forum with funny stories about people setting up too close. There was one time.... I always like the response when you confront them - it falls into 2 categories: 1) the oops, I didn't realize you were there and 2) the I'm hunting here if you like it or not.

Yep, not real wildfowlers -- just idiots wanting to be a part of "Duck Dynasty." We've got more than our share out here in the Central Flyway (and the sad thing is they breed). The only way to get away from them is to go north to Canada, as these idiots don't tend to have passports and are too cheap to pay the price of a nonresident/alien license. Come to think of it ... maybe they are aliens!

Unfortunatly I can't say "un-believable". Huntindave and I met up on a little pond to hunt. Two guys set up right in front of us on a dike. Politely Dave lets them know we are there. They made no attempt to move. Dave then mentions they are in our shooting lane and were they going to hunt there. They're response was "You took the best spot on the area so we're sitting here" or something along that line. They are everywhere!

Those idiots have been around a lot longer than duck dynasty - sad to say. :(

Just to put forth the other side of this story, on Saturday I met a buddy at a boat launch in the dark. He pulled into the launch right behind me, and just behind him was another boat on a trailer.

The other boat owner immediately comes over to me: "Where were you planning to set up?" I told him, and of course it turns out he was planning to hunt the same spot. I was anticipating having to argue that I was there first, or having a scramble to see who could launch first.

Instead, he says, "We used to hunt a blind on the other side of the island. If we set up there, we should both have some shooting. We may even push birds back and forth a little." Then he gave highly detailed instructions on how to find the low tide channel into our spot to avoid a long walk hauling our gear. Then we traded recent scouting information on other local spots we apparently both hunt.

It worked out rather nicely--we both did get some shooting.

That's part of the reason of after 49 waterfowl seasons, I do a lot more upland bird & game hunting, and fishin'. I'd rather not deal with the "Killem at all costs" mind set, of some so called "hunters". I pick and choose my waterfowl hunts now, and hunting damn near everyday of the season, No Matter What, days are in the past. Yet I regret not one of those days......and there were some Doozies!! Put that day in your book, as another life experience brought to you by Waterfowling. As the good days, and the not so good (this happened to me) days, will balance out. Good Hunting.

I'm always quick to talk to people at the ramp on smaller waters and find out where they are going or let them know where I'm going if I'm there first. There are places that I'll just turn around and leave if someone else is there.

I hope you have pictures. If that is the area you are friendly with the CO call him. You hunter harassment laws are broad enough it could be made to fit other hunters trying to take a spot from you.

I just want a picture so we can tease those guys and pick them apart for my petty enjoyment. I'm feeling spiteful today since I decided not to go out and it is windy and crap and feels like a duck day (although warm) and I'm at home screwing around on the internet. Plus it is the full moon and the moon is up at dusk and high all day, that always puts me in a mood. Damn deer don't move for crap, ducks feed all night, Damn moon what did I ever do to it. :).

For sure he should get some pics if the family friend game warden comes out and gives the guy a hard time - that would be awesome. POST 'EM UP!

Unfortunately I can beat 20 feet. We got to the blind one day before dark and found two guys all set up and using the front of the blind as their back rest. They were nice about it a offered to move I told them to use the blind and we used another spot farther up the lake.

Here's a couple pictures for you, although a few years old. I was hunting Cha La Kee Point from my Broadbill one morning and well after sunrise this boat pulls up and probably no more than 40 yards starts setting decoys. I easily could have been gunning their spread it was so close. I waved to them and they saw me but kept pitching decoys. After they were set I knew it was going to be unpleasant no matter what so I decided to leave. On the way out an idea hit me, that being anchor my Broadbill in open water off the edge of their spread. Hey, if they were so comfortable being that close why not. I motored out and dropped an anchor but damn it was too deep for my line. So instead I pulled out my crappy camera and got these shots and left. Looks like a dad teaching his boys how to hunt.

Just like my daddy taught me!!! Wow, I love it the sullen look on his face and the boys clueless look. I've always talked to anyone that has done that to me, if for no other reason than to figgure out WTF they were thinking.

I can hear him saying... "boys, this is how you gotta set yur decoys, in a "j" just like this...." or "now boys wait until I call the shot...".

What it comes down to is that they probably had no other option in their head and just couldn't adapt.
