Algae prevention on decoys

Having hunted waterfowl for over 50 years I have yet to find a product or a method of preventing algae buildup on my decoys. They stay in the water the entire season and by the close look pretty bad. I have scrubbed with bleach and all kinds of cleaner and the results are usually the same. Just as much paint as algae coming off. Anyone know of a product I can coat the bottom and sides with that might work?

Brian,

I don't leave my decoys out except for when I am actually hunting them so I can't speak from personal experience. That said I would think that a Antifouling Bottom Paint made for boats would also work on the bottoms of your decoys. Not sure what or how many colors you would have to choose from.

Just out of curiosity.... why would you leave them out the entire season?
I Illinois on the Mississippi River many places are blind draws controlled by the DNR. We can leave our decoys out all season in these areas. A lot of these guys put out 250 to 1000 decoys. The draw back is in these areas your restricted to hunting from a blind location. There are very few places where you can pull up to an island or walk into a pothole and throw out a few dekes and hunt.

I'm retired and hunt every day of the season on my own property. I used to set decoys daily but over the years have decided to leave them out because of the water depth and the time it takes to set and pick up as I hunt by myself with an occasional guest

Your a lucky man. That's always been a dream of mine (and a lot of other guys). I tried to buy a couple of pastures with ponds on them when I was a younger man but never could swing it.
