Attaching Spray Skirt to Layout Boat

Hello All,

After doing some searching on here I was not able to find what I needed.

Looking for some insight and ideas on attaching my spray skirt to the layout boat. I have the canvas material already just need a way to attach it.

Unfortunately I did not take any pictures today when I went to attach all the hardware. The boat was handmade in fiberglass by a local guy but I bought it with no skirt attached and cannot reach the builder.

The cockpit has a surrounding lip that dropps 1.5" into the cockpit. My biggest questions is have most of you attached your skirt to the top of the layout or to this lip that runs around the inside?

I thought about getting rubber J channel that would seal the canvas to the lip of the cockpit and over to the top of the layout but cant seem to find this anywhere besides commerical industires that want me to order a few hundred feet and can only ship to a business.

Hopefully I have explained this well enough and thank you for the help.

Andrew Cheek Eagle molding You will want to seal under canvas & canvas and hold down slat weather you go on top or inside 1.5" lip Hope this helps.

We are using a bendable aluminum convex strip and rivet down through it, through the curtain and into the fiberglass. We use large flange, long pull, steel pull pin, aluminum rivets that are sealed at the ends.

That is exactly what I was planning on doing David just couldnt find the material. Checking out your suggestion right now
 
I actually did this yesterday. I have an old Kalash boat. I had a convertible top repair shop sew the pocket for me . To attach it to the deck I used 1/4 inch pltwood ripped to a liitle over an inch wide. 1 inch screws and finishing washers. I made the trim pieces in 4 parts, 2 curved pieces for around the oval and then the straight side pieces.

Andrew, check out an auto house near you, car moldings work. My buddy picked up a ton of it cheap, also found some on McMaster Carr web page, you can simply lay canvas over the edge, then place the black U channel molding over it, crimp. I later went back and took #6 3/4" screws and just screwed right through it all. Has held up wonderfully for years, no leaks. I did not caulk it.
