Black cork question.

I was cutting black cork on bandsaw, (new and from a supplier that I have seen mentioned here) and noticed sparks with associated tearout. What I found was small rocks in the cork. Not many, but found them in every block I cut from the sheet. Trashed blade and I now have frown-e-face. Has anyone ever found crap like this in cork?

I ALWAYS use an old blade on cork...it doesn't take a sharp one to saw through cork, and even tan cork dulls a good blade fast. When I get one dull cutting heads and other wood stuff, it gets demoted to cork duty, the old cork one gets pitched and a fresh one is acquired for heads.

Oh yeah, lots of stuff can be in black cork. I even found a old aluminum pop/beer tab embedded in the middle of a block.

What Chuck said 2X. You'll find blades hanging on the wall near my saw maarked.....BSC ONLY

I never had a problem with the Very Old Black Cork, or the stuff I bought in the early 1980's. After that, Not So Good. Chuck's advice is sound.
