Great Pictures, I can't imagine shooting Bills without sleet or knocking ice off the decoys. Do any of the greaters ever get that far south? Can you really shoot Bills AND swat mosquitoes ??
John

Cripes sakes man! I hope you're submitting some of these for publication!!

You could afford more gadgets for that fancy boat of yours ;o)

Not sure if the greaters get down to Hitch's neck of the woods but when the weather is right and the stars align the proper way, we get quite a few greaters on Mobile Bay and Mississippi Sounds. But that hasnt happened in two years. Back in the '04-05 season, for about 3 weeks in January we were flat out covered up with greaters, redheads and cans. It was was great shooting, even got a 1-2-3 limit (the last year the scaup limits was 3).

Very nice! I just wish that some of them had stopped in here on Mobile Bay before they went down to sunny Florida!

Thanks guys,

Now if they would only do that up here when it's 70 degrees.

Beautiful stuff Hitch.

70...heck it was 70 when I left the house at 0400. When I got done pickin up the decoys, I was sweatin like a pig. And that with a T-shirt and breathable waders. When I got back to the ramp, everyone was in swimsuits, launching jet skis. 85 at 1100.

We do get a few Greaters, Redheads, and Canvasbacks down here. We've even taken a few Scoters and Old Squaw. The intercoastal gets carpeted with Scaup, although this year not as much due to the warm weather I suppose.

I use a Canon 20D and a 5D body. The Rebel Xti would be a good choice. You won't be able to tell a difference in the bodies. The lenses are the key though. As far as lenses, buy what you can afford to get started. That's what I did. Learn the camera, then upgrade the lenses if you find you enjoy using the camera enough. The lenses I use for the flying birds are Canon L lenses. 70-200L F2.8 IS and 100-400L F5.6 IS. I also have a 24-70L F2.8.

John is that a duck toller in your avatar picture?

Yes he is! I've had tollers for about 10 years now. This guy is my best yet. he really impressed the guide in Maine when we were hunting eiders off the ledges. I also have a very promising little girl that should get her JH title this spring and be ready next fall. They train slower but are very good company and are a nice size.
Thanks for noticing
John
