BOAT CONVERSION QUESTION

Has anyone on here ever converted a jon boat into a sneakboat? My thought is to take a old ten foot by 32" flat bottom boat and convert it into a sneak boat. We have shallow water here and I have a 7 hp mud motor to push it. Can it be done or is it a waste of time? My thoughts are to deck the front three feet or so of the boat for decoy storage/dog platform and try to add some looks of a BBSB to it. Any thoughts suggestions comments would be great.

I did the same thing to a 10' jon boat. I took the middle seat out and framed up a cockpit. Then I used 1/4" plywood to cover the framing. I used it in the salt marshes and could layout in it. I ran a 3 h.p. motor on it and worked great.

After you added the decking did it make it to heavy? My concern is not adding to much extra weight to it but still giving it a cool look and making it functional. Do you have any pictures of your conversion?

I did not notice the extra weight. It was less than a sheet of plywood and the framing was cedar. I just painted the wood and it lasted a long time. I did this maybe 25 years ago and I would have to look for pictures.

Sounds good Pete. I think this Saturday I will mess around with some layout and see what will work. I have a month until our season starts so I should be able to get it done.

Hey, could you post some pics when you do this, I had thought about it...How well does the 3hp push it?? (I happen to have one of those, as well!)

Thanks..
