Boat glue

Good morning fellas,I know this subject has been beat to death on here.My son has decided to build the whistler in his school shop class from the plans purchased from DN goodchild.It sounds like titebond 3 is what a guy would use in place of resorcinol glue.The plans call for a soft setting glue between the transom and sides.His teacher wants to know what the appropriate soft glue would be?I could find nothing on the matter in the thread search.Any help would be appreciated.Thanks

Don't know much about the Whistler, but I use West System exclusivley. Other two part are good also. Use it on my iceboat, duckboat and gun work. Tad on the expensive side, but won't come apart. Stays plyable won't chip. Google the site. Used on hi tech hulls...

2nd that. Use epoxy resin mixed with wood flour, microballoons, or cabosil. You can also purchase tubes that premix the epoxy, hardner, and filler as you squirt it. I've never used the stuff but my new Jamestown distributes catalog has it in there and it appears to be pretty sweet.

Also, 5200 is used by alot of local builders in my area. They build strip planked boats that are then glassed. It seems to work great. However I don't think there is any cost savings in using 5200 and I can't see any advantage it may have over epoxy.

Stick with the West Systems. It is a bit higher priced but it is the best way to go.
5200 is good for an ahesive / sealant for thru hull fittings and things like that but I prefer to use west systems for the actual build.

Thanks guys I will get some ordered.I also saw the tubes of premix epoxy in the jamestown catalog think I will try some.

Clinton, if you use those premixed tubes please post your results and any feedback on the product you may have. I would really like to know about this stuff.

I've used U.S. Composites for several years now. thier 635 epoxy resin wets out a lot better than West Systems and the price is a lot better too. I just bought 5gallons of resin and a gallon and a half of hardner for 275 plus shipping. I'm not impuning West Systems, they have a quality product also, I'm just saying shop around.
