Bob, here's a perfect example of what I mean about being in the middle of no-where in MT. and it's always just a few minutes from going from what looks like desolation into a place that you'd love to spend a month in hunting & exploring.

Ten minutes drive later.........on same the road!

Same road, crossing the bridge that goes over the Marias River which was named by Meriwether Lewis after his a lovely cousin of his. And Kimber also named their nice O/U shotgun the "Marias" because it is one of the most popular upland bird hunting areas in the State.

Scenes like these were repeated tima and again on my trip to Montana, on the Marias River, the Milk River, the Misouri River, the Powder River, the Tongue River and the Yellowstone. I traveled the Misouri River from The 3 Forks to Fort Peck and I had a hard time keeping my eyes on the road. I guess I kept expecting to see Lewis and Clark in their keelboat or a brigade of Mountain Men floating the river in bull boats. It was all new and exciting to see, but yet somehow familiar. I'm getting a feeling as if Montana is a bright light and I'm a moth. If you ever get the chance, go see it for yourself and take your son.

Ya Dave, the place really sucks, especially if you are shooting a little Spanish 20 bore double on "ditch chickens"! :^)

Dave those photos are as good as it gets. I did not know that they did not portage the boat. Can't wait till we can get into a little more detail in the books we read. I remember stopping at a place called Lighthouse rock on the Oregon trail. One of those spots that just make you stop and pause to think about all of it. Will show John those tomorrow and let him tell you what he thinks.
