building a boat

Rick, it's a nice little boat and a pretty easy build. It's not a big water boat.

Rick,

Welcome to duckboats.net. Yes several folks have built the duckhunter. If you really really can not wait for a response, your best bet would be to do a search of previous threads. Other wise I am sure folks will respond in due time when they check in and see your thread. In the meantime, why don't you fill out your profile so we can get to know you.

Would this be your first boat build? Have you read thru Eric's write up of his Scaup build? Lots of good info there for first time builders.

I did not built a DuckHunter but did seriously look at the plans though. It was a toss up between the DuckHunter and a Kara Hummer.I liked the Hummer so thats what I made.Only had a chance to use it once though. It seems to want to sideslip(if that is a word) alot when first starting to get the boat moving, but once moving it's ok.I do think my problem lays in the use of too small of keels. They turned out smaller than I wanted and like a dumbhead I put them on anyway.I may try and make a taller/wider keel that will slip over the small ones and seal them up good with 5200 sealer. Some people say that it doesn't paddle very good, but the first time I used it,I did paddle coming back to the launch.Used a electric motor when I left the launch in the morning.
