Canvasback Decoys

Hello All;

Had some problems with my first attempt to post my pics. Finished my first four canvasback decoys. Black Cork with baseboard and composite decking keel. Sealed them with spar varnish and mixture of gesso / modeling paste before coloring. I must admit, I only carved the bodies...Heads are from Autumn Wings (if anyone has a good distributor for basswood, I would be appreciate a steer towards them). I do appreciate everyone's decoy carving tips. I used almost all of them for the past few months. I decided to carve these as super-mags to reduce the occupied space in my Fatboy DP and also make my single hunter operation a little less time consuming on placement and retrieval of the decoys. Again thanks for all the help.

Nice. Big 'n simple, is how I like my decoys too. You may want to fill that gap between bottom board and cork. Keep it up

Matt,
if you get a Can to decoy to those this season you are going to come out of your boat. It is one of the cool things duck hunting to get a bird or flock to set in on your own work.
They will hunt for sure.
Now you have a great start on a spread. As you go along you will find things that you like and dont and will adjust your work to suit what works for your hunting setups.
Saving pictures of real ducks and decoys you like is a great way to build your reference base for the next birds.
