Carstens pintail/Mallard questions

I want to pick up either a carstens pintail or mallard and I would to hear from some of those who actually own the boat. I like the pintail for its smaller size but I with it was a little deeper. I will be using it for a shallow water marsh layout. with the cockpit being 7.75' and me being only 5'7" I figured it would be big enough to layout in and put the pup behind me. Anyone ever do this with either of those boats?

Thanks

Joe

Hi Joe

I bought a Pintail last year and love it.

It paddles easily , it has lots of room, I'm 6' 2" and I lay out with my lab in it.

It pulls up in the grass and disappears

Here I am on a test run with Katie my chocolate lab

Doug, thanks for the pic...that helps put things into perspective. The pics that they have on carstens website dont really allow you to get a good feel for the size of the boat. As I said before I am only 5'7" and my pup barely pushes 50#, she it a little girl so I think the pintail should work fine.

Do you trailer your boat or put it in the back of a pickup? I was planning on putting a couple of bunks on my ladder rack and just scooting it up on there.

thanks a bunch

Joe

I put mine in the back of my pick up. If you get one also get a good kayak cart. Most places I put in at I can just slide it out of the truck and in to the water, but some places I use the cart, put the cart under it , load it with gear then just haul it all to wear you can put in . I tell my lab she has to walk . LOL

Joe,

I had a Mallard and it was a really good boat. Rowed very well, hauled me, the dog, and decoys with no problem. It is a little deeper than the Pintail. I could laydown completely in the boat and be below the gunnels. If I was worried about super low profile I would go with the pintail. The only reason I got rid of it was to get a lighter weight marsh boat that I could carry. I sold the mallard to a friend and he loves it.
