I'm looking for a carving mentor located in NE/NC Iowa, SE/SC Minnesota, or SW Wiscosin. I know there are quite a few very good carvers on this site, but am looking for someone local that I can pick their brain. I'm wanting to get into carving some of my own gunning decoys to begin with and possibly into decorative decoys. I'd like to talk with someone locally that's done some carving so I'm don't create any bad habits early and to avoid common mistakes of beginning carvers.

Dave Larsen here on the page is from Clinton and has done some damn good gunning decoys. You might try to PM him or otherwise figure out how to hook up with him.

I'm 3 hrs south of ya. I'm no expert but can carve a decoy, kinda. I 'm sure there are guys alot closer but if you don't score let me know, I can at least get you heading the right way. here's a few of mine

I dont know a carver in this area, but for sure Craig make sure decoy ... the original design on all duck here is very good, look very good in water ...

I hope you made competition with that...
