Central Flyway No-Shows

Have you looked at the map to see the dot distribution. The Atlantic and MS flyways are well represented and the Pacific flywayers showed up too. Did the Central flyway outlaw duckhunting? Or maybe the internet is only in a few select places there. Any theories as to why the Central flyway lacks repesentation? If duck hunters are as thin as the map indicates I need to move there to have hunting spots all to myself. Why I'd have several states to myself.

WHEN YOU GO TO THE DAKOTAS THOSE LOCAL BOYS WILL SHOOT YOU IF THEY SEE YOU HAULING A BOAT, THEY DON'T EVEN OWN WADERS AND CANVASBACKS THEY ONLY USE THEM FOR DOG TRIALS.. ITS ALL ABOUT FIELD HUNTING...

True, that field hunting is king but I like to think that it's because they're so busy killing ducks and geese that they don't have time to "play" on the intranets. Or maybe they're illiterate?

Yeah, I think all the central flyway hunters are illiterate, a bunch of hick country bumpkins....hey wait a minute. :)

There is some truth that fewer hunters have or need boats in the dakotas. Field hunting is big but a lot still hunt water, you just don't always need a boat to hunt 5 acre ponds and small shallow lakes. I suppose they just don't search out this site even though there is a lot more here.
Also the populations of North Dakota, South Dakota and Nebraska adds up to about 1 million less then Alabama in over 4 times the area. Oh, and ducks are far from the most popular game in this area, pheasants are king. You can probably add Kansas to that list too.

I'm not sure what's wrong, Eric. We've had some wierd weather lately- snow, ice, 16 degrees right now. Most of the small water is frozen up, I did see some Gadwalls and Geese today but a lot of our birds have been pushed out I'm guessing. I've seen a ton of birds on the river, in wildlife refuges (hehe)... cans...goldeneye...scaup...mergs...teal...mallards..swans...

They're here, I just haven't taken them to the taxidermist yet! =)

As one of the few literate central flyway hunters, I would like to speak to the subject at hand.

My buddies treat me with rightous disdain. They truly HATE boat hunters!! They are old fashioned bucket hunters, wood duck calls, pack in your decoys, heck one of still shoots an old model 12 and 2 3/4" shells (get 'em close, kill 'em dead). No robo ducks, not layout boats, and definitely no full scale duck boats.

When they hunt geese then they field hunt. No layout blinds though, they dig shallow bits and lay in the dirt with a decoy on their chest.

They regard my boat building as a curious hobby, but duck/goose hunting is serious business.

Chris

I hope the cold pushes some ducks into the TN Valley. It's getting pretty slim. A buddy took off work this week and hunted everyday but one. Very hit and miss.

Our season just ended in Wisconsin and it was bang up. One of the better ones helped by plenty of water and consistent fronts moving through the entire season. Only two weeks of goose left and then depression.........

Heeeeyyy, Watch it!!! I still hunt a Mod 12 2 or 3 times a year. 16GA to boot! Thank God for Bismuth!

I gotta agree with you on this one....The county where I went to high school in metro Atlanta had more people than the entire state of South Dakota. That's why I moved here 12 years ago and never looked back. The Boykin and I spent the whole day field hunting today and saw one other truck of guys out. Shot a rooster, missed another, but also shot four rabbits. We have incredible numbers of rabbits up here and I am the only guy I know that hunts them. Eric, I think I am the other red dot from SD on your map.

I have an old 16ga Remington Sportsman 48. Love that gun, but for pheasants, never taken it duck hunting. Bismuth is EXPENSIVE. I buy Bismuth for my daughter to shoot in her 20ga, but I'm too cheap to buy it for myself, I just shoot on of my 12ga's.

Rocky,
One Bismuth shell costs alot less than the 4 steel shells that are needed to kill a duck over water (and then on the water).
