Class of 07...who's building what this year????

I am wondering who has plans to build this year. I have decided to finally (after a two year wait) build a BBIII. I have the palns and shop space. I considered buying a boat from Dave Clark, but think I would prefer to build one.

Brad, a little tip..you may want to tilt your head pattern so the grain runs straight up the bill. It will save you grief WHEN you drop one on the floor and it lands on the bill(which they do every time. Your deke looks great also...good job!

As for boat projects...I was going to finally build a Broadbill..but after just looking over the BB2..I think I will sand her down, put another layer of glass on her, re-fillet some spots and do some stuff to make it comfy for me and the grandson next season.

Considering a BB III but still in the fact gathering and thinking phase, no plans in hand. I want to try and get around and look at a few after the season to see a finished product first hand. Is a 25 hp enough for one of these?

Hey Shawn, I'm in Huntsville and have a BBIII. You are more than welcome to come see it. I'm close to Ditto Landing and will even take you for a spin. I run a 25 merc and with 2 of us and a dog I have seen it do 28 mph with a GPS. That's plenty fast enough for me.

Thanks Lee!!

I will make the change.

My next will be the Tolman Widebody. BUT I also have plans for a traditional BBSB that is begging to be built.

In addition, I've just started dating a gal who's into kayaks so I may have to squeeze one of those in as well.

No rush as I have 4 operating boats already.

I have all the parts for a 17' sailboat (stitch-n-glue const.) taking up space on my half of the garage floor.... I would like to get the materials moved out to my shop soon. It would be nice to start the project this late winter, but it will be a 2007-2008 project to complete, I'm afraid. With 3 young kids and a puppy all competing for my attention, my "free" time has become quite expensive...

As for ducking, I've been noodling over building a poleboat or similar craft, as well.

This is the year I hope to finish my Bluebill. :^)

I'm starting to feel like the 18 year old in the 8th grade.

Hey! Maybe I can be the first to complete a boat in '07.

Eric

I hope to have my Broadbill completed in early '07. Looks as though Caswell and I will be in a race to have the first boat done. Soon as the temps are warm enough to epoxy, I'll be in the garage.

I hope to start carving this Spring/Summer as well. I don't own any divers yet so I'd like to carve a rig of divers for this coming season. Most likely some Bills or Cans.

After 8 months of procrastination and constantly reviewing the plans.................I hope to finally start construction of a Snow Goose. I'd like to have a remote steering console. The recent postings tend to lean toward tiller steering. Any suggestions on location (how far up from the stern) and how it will effect the weight distribution? Should the fuel tank be moved to the bow to compensate for the weight of the console? Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

BBSB is in the plans. That as well as 2-3 dz cans and goldeneyes, which will be bobtails. All hollow cork with probably internal ballast. What the heck, lets throw in some swan and goose decoys as well.

HI all, Newbee here. I've got the plans to a cedar strip Merrymeeting bay float that I will be starting in a few weeks. Anyone ever build one?

I've got a sneakbox started to donate to the DU fund raiser in March. I think I've got 2 Heavy Duckers sold. I wanna build a 16 foot Heavy Ducker for myself and another customer wants me to build an AA Broadbill.

I will be taking the year off after building the Poleboat last year but as always will be full of *%^#@!!&**a.k.a. good advice. I will be doing a lot more loading, rigging, camoing and scouting this summer. Also since I have the only dog who isn't perfect I will be doing a bit of training. Good luck and have fun to all you builders.
Shiny side up,

Robert,

You can't go wrong with a BBIII, it's a proven design that works well. Anymore, I don't seem to have the urge to build boats. The tree I have are more than enough. But I still long for a BBSB. I like the idea of a BBSB with a glass bottom for ease of up-keep and the originality of a wooden top for the "Old Timey" look.

I guess for now, I'll save my energy and settle for searching for more old SXS's. I need a to find a old 16 ga. and a 28 ga. SXS and maybe another couple of those leather breakdownn shotgun cases.

Dave
