I just finished up my official decoy carving apprenticeship with carver Frank Werner. The program was funded by the NEA through the Idaho Commission on the Arts. It was a folk & traditional arts apprenticeship.
As part of the program I had to do a public display. I did two full days of carving at the Saint Maries Art festival. It was two long days and a bit warm on Sunday, but still fun. Lots of people went through asking questions, etc.
Many people who knew Frank and his work thought my decoys were his, but he didn't have work there. I think that was even a compliment to me, rather than an insult to Frank.
Although, I can't say I am a master carver now. I will still keep learning as I go.
