Dreaming of a white Easter...

How bizarre! Woke up this morning to 2inches of the white stuff on the ground. This is more than I have seen over the past 2 winters combined here in SE Virginia.

Bizarre is right. This cold snap is wreaking havoc with my spring flowers. I'm just glad I've missed out on the snow...so far. When the cold air moved in it brought a lot of moisture here to the center of the country so I'm not really complaining.

The wife's flowers bloomed last week in the 75 degree weather we had...now the snow has turned them to mush. We have had about 3" in the last couple days but only about an inch is built up. The winds have been knocking branches off the trees around here.

It's a weird weather day here in Eastern NC, too. We had snow flurries about 10:00 this morning. The sun was shining bright by 11:30. The wind is blowing like crazy..temp in mid 40's, but I guess the wind-chill is about mid 30's. This time yesterday, I was floating along the river in my pirogue with a bunch of friends, enjoying a calm spring day...probably mid 60's yesterday. It's supposed to get down to 25 deg. tonight.

Turkey season starts next Sat.!

I had to drive through a mini-blizzard to get to work this morning. Someone started to turn in front of me and slid, so they stopped, in my lane. I was only going 40 mph. But, with deep ditches on both sides of the road and they only place to go the other lane I was worried for a couple of seconds. They got atarted again and got out of my way.

Our flowers are suffering. But, the tree fruit growers are the ones really hurting. I heard a grower I use to work with on a Columbus Ohio radio station saying he didn't think hi apples were hurt too bad but another grower along the Ohio river was at full bloom earlier this week. I'm sure I know him, his wife worked as my assistant. That will just about wipe out their crop for this. I'm sure their peaches are completely toasted. We just saw a patient here from MS and she said they are expecting 20's tonight. Peaches may be in short supply this year in the east.
