Epoxy question

For all you boat builders out there, once you've laid the initial layer of fiberglass cloth & resin, do you add any filler to the top coat of resin in order to reduce dripping/sagging on vertical areas?

Wendell,
I have not done that in the past. The drips never created a problem for me I just let it drip off the rough edge of the side of the hull and sanded that edge smooth when done.

In an ideal world I put a fill coat on the glass once the below coats start to set enough so you won't get runs from the stuff below and you can add coats thin enough on the top to not have runs. You have a period of time to get your fill coat or coats on before he bottom sets up. I would do them later that day or the next day is fine. I don't add anything, but am sure to fill the weave before the epoxy is set up fully, otherwise you have to sand into the glass to get the tooth for a mechanical bond. The particular galss makes a differance as well.

I am not an expert. I did ask that same question to an expert last week.
He said if your getting runs your putting it on to thick. The way it was expained to me was to
get a small roller the 1"dia rather than the standard paint roller.
Apply, then add the cloth then apply then use a painter hook to remove as much resin from the roller then re roll to roll up the excess. That will make a lighter / stronger fiberglass job.
