Well, looks like work here for me has completely dried up...indefinitely. Three of my main four customers are all but out of business, and even the remodel work is at a standstill. Fortunately enough, I have a good amount of nice, dry cedar, some paint, and a garage full of tools. I've never been much into selling decoys, but I have managed to sell off my whole rig before I even got it wet this year, and I've had some people asking for them, so I figured what better time than now to take my shot at carving decoys to keep food on the table and the lights on. I've made arrangements with a few places to display my work on a consignment basis, and the orders I have now will keep me busy for the next few weeks.

I'm not trying to hustle anyone into buying a decoy, but if you wouldn't mind saying a prayer for me and my clan, I would appreciate it!

You are going to do fine. Your energy and enthusiasm will get you going. The passion you show will translate from you to your birds and customers will come.

Eric

Paul, good luck. I hope all works out for you. If you get back to some of those Old Squaw keep me in mind.

PS we'll keep you and Michelle in our prayers

Paul, Good Luck and remember to just do the right thing every day and things will work out. Keep your eyes open for any oportunity. I went through the same trip 8 years ago.

That is a tough way to make a living... Best wishes... Post up some pictures of your birds and win some decoy contests to generate buzz...

Think about moving, it isn't so bad. There are a hell of a lot better places in the country for duck hunting too!

Paul you'll be fine....I'll be praying for you and Michelle. Let me know if there is anything I can do. Also, I'll be talking to ya soon about some decoys!

Best of luck Paul. I feel your pain. This economy has us all second guessing our discisions. Stay possitive brother...................Kevin

Paul -

Good things happen to good people.

Isn't wasn't long ago and I was out of a job. Keep a positive attitude and let people see it. This won't last for long (I hope) and you'll be back working in before you know it.

Not to sound like a cliche but things happen for a reason and this could be the start of a new life path. Someone on this site passed along some great wisdom - Life is like a book and when one chapter ends, another begins.

Keep us updated and post some pics of some dekes.

Paul,

We will keep you in our prayers. Remember, it's not what ya know, it's who you know. And you know people! Stay sharp and positive. Keep networking and open to new ideas. I know you will make something happen.

Ask God what He wants you to do. Maybe look at some lines of employment you haven't considered before. With your knowledge of boats normally I would suggest the marine industry but they are hitting a real rough patch too. I thank God everyday that my wife is a Nurse.

Prayers have been launched for you,

Harry

Thanks for the kind words fellas. I guess the reason I love this whole duck hunting related lifestyle is the guys I meet that live it 365 days a year. Is much as I like ducks, boats, decoys etc, it all comes in well behind the duck hunters themselves. I've spent a couple long days in the shop and have been loving every minute of it! Tomorrow...more of the same!

God Bless you all.

Paul

Paul, Prayers sent for you! Being a full-time carver is a dream of mine, hopefully yours pans out well...You deserve it for all ya do for the young carvers

You'll be fine. Everything is slow right now but eventually cars will start selling again. Just remeber: you have a ton of knowledge the someone will pay for.

One idea: check into being a Votech or Industrial Arts Teacher. I subbed a few times and it was a pretty decent gig. Not as fun as chasing Yogi and Booboo, but pretty cool. Good hours, dependable, decent wages, and all the beni's. Just a thought...

Good luck,

Good Luck Paul,

Be sure to post lots of photos of the ones you carve especially the one's not yet spoken for...I'm sure Eric won't mind.

Paul,
Just had a thought (no, that's not totally foreign to me). We need to talk. I'll put together a webpage for you on my website like I did for Eddie Kershaw. We can put stuff there for you to sell, what you're doing, how you're carving, classes you've got going and that might help you pull out of the slump. No cost & you take care of any sales and that's up to you.
Later partner, let me know what I can do to help,
Lou
