Got out this afternoon. Tons of other guys out, but I was able to slide into one of my favorite spots, abig milfoil & valisneria bed in a large bay. Ran a pile of gadwalls up when I went in.
Before I could get all set up I had 6 trying to land, got in a hurry and missed. And I shot like crap the rest of the afternoon!
Lots of flocks of gadwalls came back into the area, but they acted like they had been shot at for weeks already and were equipped with range finders. They would get about 50-75 yards out and drift off to land a couple hundred yards aways. This went on for 2 hours. Sometimes there were 2-3 flocks of 5-15 birds each circling.
In the end I managed to scratch 2 out flocks that got too close, missed a couple more I should of had and passed on some shots I should have taken thinking they will make one more pass.
Maybe with our season closed to the split until next weekend and this big cold front, we'll have some actually decoy for us next weekend.
Only divers I saw was one flock of buffies and 2 pairs of bluebill, all out of range. Come on divers, come to the coast!!!!
