FL Duck Hunt

My buddy posted these on another forum. The pics were taken by a young lady named Rhiannon. I thought you guys might enjoy. They are not always this bad but some are bold and brazen. We hunt with dogs out there too. I pick my location very carefully when the dog is with me. The water level has to be knee high or less. This was on a pretty cold day and the water was colder than the fabled 68° that makes them lethargic or hole up in the mud. I have never had a problem at this location but, I did have one beeline on my dog many years ago but was "somehow persuaded" not too take a bite out of my lab. It was pretty scary and even worse my kids were with me. This makes me think about it even more.

Ouch!

Back when I hunted early teal season, we lost teal to gators. Had one grab a decoy too, but he spit it out pretty quick.

A few years ago two guys actually shoot one here in WI out duck hunting. It was obviously someones pet that they released.
 
After seeing that I didn't think I would ever say this------makes putting up with western diamondbacks not so bad.

We have it all here: pythons, rattlers, water moccasins, gators, mosquitoes and even sharks but I have never had to shovel snow.

We had ice in the marsh last week!!!

Had the circle the entire pothole to break it up before putting out the dekes.

As far as gators, you just have to know where to hunt the dogs.

If it's not running water, the dogs stay on the porch.
 
You still have to be careful even in shallow water. I ran into this big guy in about 6 inches of water, at least 10 feet long. Note the photos are 70mm and 78mm and only cropped a little. The second one was at about 7 yards and that was when he started to hiss at me. Rex was in the puddler. This one was probably trying to find a place to get out of the water and sun himself.

Ya - we have the same problem in Oregon (just kidding)- Thats nutts!! I love duck hunting but wading out to put the decoys out must be alot of fun! I guess thats why I like this forum - you hear and see everything.
 
I had a 3ft gator take a hand size redbreast off my line last summer fishing in the Savannah river it was kinda funny he wouldn't let go and I had a good fight for bout 5 min. with him
