flip open doors for layout?

I'm working on a kara type boat.
Any suggestions on making a flip open type doors.
Bimini hardware and bent conduit? Or something else.
I'd like to cover the doors and boat with natural grass and lily pads.
Make it look like a little ol rat hut.

Coduit will probably work.

You could also try closet shelving or cattle panel. On my KARA I made two conduit hoops and sewed some cordura covers. I secured the material to the decks and held the hoops up with bungees. It gave me two ends to the blind and with some grass it looked just like a rat hut.

It also allowed a more upright hunting position. That helps with seeing birds and being comfortable.

Post some pics of your project when you have a chance.

I wish I had picks of my old contraption. It worked well the few times I had it out.

Although not a Kara, I have flip wings on my Chesapeake....made from Hog Panel......I used 2 eye bolts on each side to attach.......this system has been very good for me

I made a flip blind for my Hoefgen Duck Boat out of conduit and bimini hardware. Send me your email address and I'll send some pictures. For the front and back of the KAra, stretch bungee and then tie on raffia grass onto the bungee. Works very well. If I can figure out how to post apicture I'll do so.

That looks just what I'm looking for.
How do you attach the hog wire to the Eye bolts?
Are the flip doors easily removed?
Thanks

i made up some for my DH2 in honor of the X-Land'r design:
they are bent 1/2" conduit with some hinges made from 1/8" thick aluminum angle (1x1) and a cairrage bolt/locknut

This is the reason this site must exist. Great ideas and sharing info. This will come in handy for me also when i redo the sneak boat I have. Thanks guys.

A little insight from only a three year veteran of hunting out of MLBs

If you are open water hunting for divers I would not recommend the flip open but on the other hand can't say that I have tried it...I have noticed that on days with little or no wake that the higher you are out of the water the less likely you are going to get the within a respected shooting range...My hunting partner and I have always set the decoys with a outside shooting range of about 25 yds...I typically do not shoot at passing ducks past the outside string....It may sound silly but I am just not confident with that range as an effective range for myself due to my shooting abilities...I always shoot 6s in either my 12 or 20...I love to see the birds bill to hit its chest...I have shot a lot of birds in my career...I keep a diary of my hunts and have kept my wound to kill ratio very low due to this change in style of shooting...Granted I can't show picture after picture of ducks I am holding but I can show you some ducks with smiles on my face...Believe me I have turned down a lot of shots due to this...In fact a few weekends ago we had a MALARKY crew hunt and Rick Pierce yelled at me a few time for not taking shots...

But back to your flip top idea...Unless your hunting a corn field or have cover like lily pads around...Keep the top off and wear a color representable to the color of your boat and wear a face mask...I have noticed a lot of hunters we have hunted with over the last 2 years always wearing their camo of choice...Looks like a black dot from a distance with contrasted grey water around you...A light colored olive drab or gray raincoat with a face mask and being still is the ticket....

I believe in the future we will experiment with visqueen to lay over us to keep the birds at closer range....

If the flip top experiment works give me a text...It might BE THE RIGHT TICKET!!

That's why we hunt...Good luck in your hunt...

the hog panel was a bit of pain, because I had to purchase a section which I think was 4x12....but a saws-all solved all......once I determined the size I simply cut it out....the eye bolts I had attached through the boat and with effort pried them open a bit to slip the panel in, then shut the small openning.......I have never taken the wings off, but I can only assume it will be easy and quick. The panel is not alot of additional weight, is 'solid' and holds a rounded shape........rounding the panel was challenging....but force works and I was lucky to have them match up evenly.....note that I have used pipe insulation along the top of the boat and along the edges of the panel.....this cushions impact and also prevents catching your clothes or body parts......one neat feature is that the deployed wings serve as great shelves while setting and retreiving dekes......after a few seasons of using salt-hay bundles I cut, I installed the grass panels last year....no fixes and primping through the season, they are very durable and take highway trailering

NOTE.....this was not my 'original' thought....rather, I got the general concept through this site under "readers rigs" some four or five years ago! I believe the gent's name was Tom French.
