Friday in the field and on the water!

Friday morning was a goose hunt with a bunch of friends that usually don’t get out goose hunting much we ended the morning with 17 geese and a hen mallard in the field! But after the goose hunt Colin Fitzpatrick and I loaded the kayaks and a few decoys in the truck and headed coastal we had a feeling that we might know where there was open water! We pull to the launch and see open water ice then open water that was covered with brant and ducks!! We were paddling out and as we are going out a group of pintails drops in the spot we wanted to set up in!! We knew we might have a chance at getting our pintail. We set up and not much was flying we had a few pintails sail around the spread and just wouldn't come in. Then out of the fog came a lone drake wigeon! I took a shot and dropped him then Colin Finished him off! To bad we didn't get this wigeon a week ago when Jersey Boy was visiting! We also got our two black ducks and after we had our two we had more black ducks landing in the decoys and some were even sleeping! Great afternoon on the bay wish the ice would stay a little longer!

Your group had a fantastic hunt. I sure enjoyed that picture of the happy hunter and the widgeon. That duck is probably my favorite puddler to hunt.

One of the first things I said to Colin after we had shot that bird was I bet Al on duckboats will like this picture of the wigeon! We always dream of shooting a wigeon like the ones that you always get!!!
