Many of you have seen Derek's post about the current situation with his baby girl being diagnosed with a type of Leukemia. Like most of I was unaware of this until I talked to Derek just maybe a few days after they had found out. I have been in touch with him over the past few years about coming down to Florida to hunt and he has been so informative and gracious with organizing a hunt and I am thankful to know him. The first time I contacted Derek about a hunt he even invited me to stay at his home if I needed to, I was not able to work out the hunt that year but that goes to show what kind of guy Derek is. The day I talked with Derek about two weeks ago just hit me hard, I personally do not have any kids but I have been around this horrible disease enough to know what it must be doing to a family. After I got off the phone with Derek, God told me to do something. I contacted a mutaul friend of ours and who is well known for his taxidermy work asking him if he could help with this because I know Derek and Shane Smith have become friends over the past years. Shane said absolutely and let's make it happen.
So far I cannot express how thankful I am as to how gracious the waterfowl community has been as far as sending prayers to the family and been so responsive to those I have contacted about items or services to donate to raise money for the family in their time of need.
I contacted Eric Patterson to make sure this post would be ok on duckboats.net forum, so here it goes. We are orgainizing and online public auction of items or services donated by the waterfowl and hunting community to be auctioned off towards the end of September, and all proceeds will go directly to the family, we will be accepting private donations also. If you have an item or service you would like to donate to help out Derek and his family please contact me via Private Message. Also, the auction will be posted over on the Refuge Forums, so if you have any interest on bidding on items please register on that forum for auction purposes.
Again, I would like to thank everyone for their prayers and thank those who I have contacted or contacted me about donating items or services to be auctioned off for this. Please continue to keep Lillianne Mae and her parents in your thoughts and prayers.
