Geese landing in odd places

On the way to work a couple weeks ago I saw a Canada goose fly up and land on the edge of an old poured concrete silo that did not have a roof on it. On the way home the next day there was a pair of geese on top of a silo on the neighboring farm. So I took a quick picture on my phone. Low quality but it was neat to see.

Maybe they are decoys put there to scare pigeons? Kind of like how some people put owls :p

I used to have some living on the gravel roof across from my old apartment. They had a nest, and every morning, they would watch me eat my breakfast.

There are several geese that land on top of the office building next to where I work. It's a flat roof, two stories tall and they are up there all the time.... never seen that before.

When I worked in Farmingdale I've seen them do that every year Chris......very smart birds

They weren't decoys up there. Unless they are motion decoys that walk around and look around. I'm just wondering how to get my decoys up there this fall.

I had a goose land in a tree right next to where I was set up turkey hunting this spring. First time I'd ever witnessed that.

One of my neighbors on the creek has an osprey nesting pole by his dock. This year the geese beat the fish hawks to the punch. Funning seeing them nest on a platform 20ft in the air.

Funny you should say that. I was Turkey hunting last Friday and spotted a goose land in a tree. I couldn't believe what I saw so I took a walk over to the tree to get a closer look. Sure enough it was a goose. I didn't tell anyone because I thought they would think I'm nuts.

When living in St. Louis (1986-88) our office building had open terraces on the 10=12th floors and one year a pair decided to nest on the 10th floor terrace. We put out a small wading pool for the goslings and then the Missouri Game & Fish guys boxed them up and went across the street to a small lake and released the little buggers. It was a sight to see mom & dad circling the building like a pair of B-52's until the dept. guys made it to the lake where the little ones were released.

Here in Oklahoma on the Navigation Channel, there's an abandoned bridge across the old river section where a pair has nested for years. It's a 40' drop for the little ones once they leave the nest.

I wouldn't believe it unless I saw them land on top of office buildings with my own eyes. And it's not a one time thing... there are two office buildings on either side of the building I work in.... they are up there all the time!

and I would call BS too Chris if I didnt see it with my own eyes.....

First time I seen geese in a tree I was floating a sm river in NW PA for woodies in a canoe. Couldn't believe my young eyes at the time. I about fell out of canoe in shock. I was all twisted up trying to figure how I was going get anyone to believe me. When I told the older waterfowlers I hunted with they were like, "yep, so??". Like there was some sort of sub spieces that roosted in trees. Glad others find it odd to, Be it 20 years late. I've yet to see the landing in a tree though.

John, that made me think of one of the waterfowl biologists that is here at Bosque del Apache. He told me about seeing Canadas building nests in huge trees 50 feet up when he worked in either Missouri or Arkansas.

Funny, after reading this thread I went to Knox, ND to do some work on the house. You know spring thraw, had to put in a sump pump, etc. Any way heard a goose honking away and went outside to check out the problem. On the peak of a 30 foot barn was 2 greater canadas honking away. At the other end of the barn was a hen mallard standing. Unfortunately I didn't have a camera. Point being you never know what you'll see, but I read it on Duckboats first, thanks guys....
