Great Lakes Decoy Show pics #2...

Jim was honored by the club with a plaque. A great time was had by all. Kudos to Ken Cole, Marty Hanson, John Deeter and all the GLDCA volunteers who put together a first class show.

Pat: Thanks for the photos of the "Schmiedlin" display. My wife and I met Jim at the Westlake, OH decoy shows back in the early 1990's. After all these years, Jim's decoys have never ceased to amaze me. Jim has been in our thoughts and prayers.

What a great bunch of pictures...

Can you tell me anything about the Harlequin decoy?.....was it used locally or did it "migrate" there from the West Coast.....its old....or looks that way.....and they were few and far between "back then"....heck still are in the grand scheme of things......

I used to brag that I had the biggest Harlequin rig in the United States...I bet when that decoy was being floated that its owner could have made the same brag.....

Pat~

Thanks so much for posting Jim's work. I have neither met Jim nor even seen his birds "in the flesh" - but he has inspired me from the moment I discovered his work on the web a few years ago. His style is just wonderful - truly eloquent!

All the best,

SJS

Thanks Pat. Mr. Schmiedlin's work is truly amazing. I never get tired of seeing it. I had the pleasure of spending an afternoon with him at a carving get together a couple of years ago and I remember doing a field check on his group on Presque Isle many years ago. He is a true gentleman. I too keep him in my prayers. I heard that he is not able to carve any longer, a true lose to the decoy community.

Pat,
It was great to meet you at the show. I found the two Cans in picture two were interesting as they were made in 1976.

Ken - Great meeting you and your wife as well. Jimmy's work has come a long way since the 70's. It should be an inspiration to every decoy carver...
Thank you for being part of such an amazing turnout for Jim. Pat

Thanks for posting the photos Pat. Had planned to drive over Fri. but my plans unraveled Thur. nite. Feel bad about it. Would have loved to see everybody there to celebrate Jim and his decoys.

Jim's decoys are truly inspirational. I was able to handle one at te Nj Decoy Collectors show yesterday.

Does anyone know how Jim achieved such fine vermiculation???
