...tonight kicks off the annual meeting of the GREAT WHITE BIRD SOCIETY to be held in Fairfield, NC. The festivities will begin with a supper meeting, followed by generous priming of the pump. At a time deemed sufficient, the His Most Honorable George will call the Brotherhood to order. At that time, New members will be indoctrinated into the mating call of the GREAT WHITE BIRD. Following this lesson in nature's ways, The annual Swan Calling Contest will be held. (I am a past Champion of 2001, by the way). Judges will grade the contestants on a number of criteria not the least of which is style and volume. After a new Champion is named, additional pump priming will take place. This usually is accompanied by unrehearsed revelry and celebratory song into the late night.

On Saturday morning, the Brotherhood will gather in the field for the annual "culling of the herd." This is where the mating call lessons from the previous night pay dividends.

Following that, a luncheon alfresco takes place, complete with Champagne and hors d'oeuvre. This is then where the real business of the meeting occurs. During this time there is much speechifying and honors made and given to the Brethren who've travelled from afar. Proper homage is paid the the GREAT WHITE BIRD, and to the CREATOR. It is not unusual for one Honorable Member or another to read some prose or perhaps lead the group in an Irish Sea Chanty. Toasts are given to honor milestones in the history of the Society. This is a semi-formal affair, black-tie preferred.

The remainder of the afternoon is filled with much story telling and singing and fellowship.

As darkness comes, the sacrificial hog is brought out from its cooking pit, along with numerous and assundry dishes on the sideboard. Again, singing and honoria is allowed. This goes on until the late night.

A final dismissal of the Brotherhood is held Sunday morning where all travelers are bid safe voyage home until next we meet again.

............So if you happen to be in Fairfield tomorrow, stop by for some good food and fellowship. Tell them you read it here and Joe Friday sent you. I will be there!

I will try to post a few pics next week.

Good hunting to all.
