Hazard to dogs: chemical hand warmers

Just returned from trip to vet. Always learning something.

Lab#2 is sneaky, and ate a package of two hand warmer packets. Wife said do something.

Called ASCPA Animal Poison Hot Line. They said get to vet quick...lots of potentially toxic iron in theses packets, plus a bowel or throat obstruction hazard.

Vet induced a LOT of vomiting and packets came out. Vet said he never treated this before, and had thought he had seen everything...until tonight. He said the Hot Line folks consulted with him, and these packets are a real hazard for the dogs.

never even thought of this after all the years of thanking God for these packets on good duck days.

If this topic has been posted before, I apologize for the duplication.

Good luck to all with the hunting seasons. A sad year for this group and others, but lift a 28" barrel with a load of #4's to the memories. Best to everyone.

Thanks for the heads up, you never know what a dog might eat. I just heard that grapes are bad for their kidneys too.

If you ever need to induce vomiting instead of running to the vet, give the dog peroxide then stand back.

One of my dogs ate a whole pair of my wifes pantyhose. I only found out about it when i mowed the lawn and the mower died. Ever unwrapped a mower blade with $hi# covered hose wrapped around it? Not fun!

I looked at the MSDS for mycoal grabbers. Certainly a blockage hazard, but it doesn't look like they are toxic.
