Hello to you all.

Hello,
New member here. I love boats. I love green boats and grey boats and all colors of the marsh and water in between. Drive past a Ferrari on the highway, humph, big deal. Drive past a $100 green boat with grass on it and my head swings and the horn beeps and a thumbs up along with a close examination.
Been on boats since I was a newborn and green boats since I took up waterfowling in the 70's. I have 4 I hunt with. Some more, some less. A Scanoe, a fiberglass 3 man kayakis push pole type of boat that I want to make into a scull boat. A 16 foot gunboat with front deck, side decks and clipboards, all grassed, a larger wannabe Barnegut Bay Sneak box fantasy. Leaks a little, I won't fix it cause it gives my friends something to grump about. A 21 foot old Thompson sea skiff style I/O, high sided and big, great for striper ( we cll um rockfish) blues and other finned beauties of open water. Next season's seaduck platform.
I'm hooked on my A5 like all get out, barely adequate as a goose caller, an idiot as a duck caller, even after all these years.
Been on the various forums for many years. I find the bashing, name calling, attacking, trolling, all an insult to the good people who frequent the forums and view it all as perverse entertainment among morons who fill a need to to feel good about themselves by attacking others. Kinda like the way monkeys pick lice from each other as a snack.
I like the forum I see here, the respectful interaction and friendly ribbing and don't want to see it ever change. If you don't ming, I'd like to read your ideas, add my own, ask questions and opinions of others.
I grew up in NY on Long Island, moved to Virginia around 28 years ago. Hunted the Bay on both the Md side and Virginia side. Still do on this side a bit as well as lakes and farms. My heart is in the salt water marsh. I find fresh water fishing ok, kinda fun, but give me my surf pole and a beach or shore and I am in heaven, that is if the hunting season is out or it's Sunday. Give me the purr of the boat motor as we troll an open horizon and my compass course and again I am happy. Off season is maintaining, building waterfowl stuff. I've painted that old jonboat 3 more times in the past years than the house that at places is down to grey weathered wood. Oh, and I can ramble on a bit too.
Nice to met ya's.

Welcome aboard! You should fit in nicely. Your "monkey & lice" comment is spot on! Are you west side of bay?

Richard~

Welcome to the site. I joined this past winter and have enjoyed every bit of it - met lots of great guys and have learned lots. I just came in from the shop - re-painting some Brant gunners and building a 2-man layout (grey boat) - sounds like we spend our days alike.

Where from on Long Island? I grew up in East Islip and lived in East Patchogue until '94.

BTW: "The Brant are Back" is, to me, the perfect gunning image - great choice for your avatar - and it reminds me that I need to frame my copy and get it up in the shop for inspiration. Only thing wrong here in Washington County is a shortage of salt water.....

All the best,

SJS

Do you mind if I quote this when it occurs on some other sites I frequent. It only takes one or two morons to ruin a great forum with their idiocy.

Great introduction and welcome aboard!

Yeah, Richard ... Welcome aboard! While I really don't post much here (and resist "Facebook" along with other social media) I've found this forum to be a breath of fresh air, and a place you'll generally find some good, like-minded individuals who are passionate about waterfowling. However, I did receive some kind-hearted bashing in response to my negative posting of "Duck Dynasty" ....

Welcome to the forum.....I second the pictures question....

Welcome Richard! Great intro. Photobucket accounts make posting pics pretty easy, just an FYI if you hadn't caught the desire to see your boats, lol. Have a great season.

Richard welcome to the site. Great bunch of folks on here. Where are you in Va? I'm in Woodbridge but hunt Cambridge Md mostly. Hope to see more posts from you soon

Welcome aboard. Great place to spend time and a good starting point to meet some wonderful folks.

Good to have you with us, Richard. This is a great site as you found out. I'll look forward to reading about some of your adventures and maybe looking at a few pics.

As a representative of God's side of the Mississippi, Oklahoma in particular (just joking), welcome to this site. Lots of good info and entertainment. I need to start submitting pictures myself. I'm a little technologically challenged so I've been reluctant to try. But my new duck hunting year resolution will be to try.

Wow guys, what a good welcome. I feel like it is Thanksgiving and I just returned home, thanks. I'll answer some questions. Gene, I hunted the Md side a few years, mostly the Md WMA's as I didn't have any contacts or money or a connection for a lease for years. Long drive, but the Bay is well worth it no matter what. I now hunt the Va side of the Bay, as I have a couple of friends with blinds and this is where I plan to have my 21 footer for seaduck hunting.
Carl and Dani: I'll get some pictures going soon. I promise.
Steve: I grew up on the South Shore of Long Island. Fished with my family all around Freeport, Jones Inlet, Reynolds Channel and the ocean out of Jones Inlet. After college, I got away from waterfowling and raced sailboats on both the South Shore and North Shore on the Sound. Then I went back to water fowling, came to my senses,ha. I returned to LI every Thanksgiving for many years and hunted the marshes inside Jones thru to Freeport for many years. These are the waters I was a Marsh Rat kid for years before. I like that " Brant are Back " image too. If I remember it right it takes place where guys are hitting Fire Island years ago to hunt. You are lucky to have the print. I just snagged a little image off a forum and use it for my screen background now and then and also a cool avatar.
Charles H. Hey, use the quote all you like. Monkeys eating lice, thats how I picture the attackers sometimes.
bvullo, I lived in Arlington, then Alexandria , then Burke, now Spotsylvania County, west of Fredricksburg. Love cow country vs the liberal Northern Virginia.
