As Mark Schupp can attest I have been a longtime follower/lurker and have enjoyed the content of the site. I believe, however, I have never posted until now. I hope you see then urgency of the message and that I can count on you all!
Fellow Waterfowl Hunter,
You may have seen this on our website or received a e-mail call to action. The Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) is in jeopardy. The most successful waterfowl habitat conservation program in history is teetering on collapse.
I am going to borrow a page from an esteemed colleague in Texas and plead to you today as a concerned waterfowler as much as a Ducks Unlimited employee. CRP is not a program that funds DU, CRP is a Farm Bill program that fosters widespread waterfowl habitat conservation in the critical breeding grounds of the North Central United States.
Simply put, CRP offers landowners federal-based financial incentives to place or leave marginal crop lands in a natural state. The wildlife and environmental benefits of this program are immense and there is no species that benefits more than breeding waterfowl. This 20 year-old program has a proven impact on the North American waterfowl population, is popular with America's farmers and ranchers, and is paramount to the future of duck hunting as we know it.
Currently there are discussions in Washington to suspend new landowner enrollment into the program for two years and not to adjust acreage payments to levels that are comparable with land values.
I urge you to take a moment to open the link provided here, read it, and click on the take action tab at the top of the page and follow through. It's easy and will only take a few minutes. E-mails are OK, phone calls better, and a personally drafted letter is best.

If there was ever a time to call your representative concerning a waterfowl issue this is it. We need to let them know we support CRP!
I thank you for reading this and hope you'll find time to represent the resource with your actions. Trust me, your letter or phone call will make a difference and is worth the time it takes to do it.
During a speech to the House of Commons of the British Parliament on August 20, 1940, at the height of the Battle of Britain (WWII), Winston Churchill said,
“Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.”
He was referring to the bravery of the RAF pilots who turned the tide of the battle and eventually the war. Folks, this is our chance in history to be the few who helped save waterfowl for all.
To date, Friday February 23, 2007, more than 3,000 individuals have let the voice be heard. But we need more! Please pass this on to every waterfowler you know! Together we can continue to make a difference for the future of waterfowling.
Sincerely,
Mike Checkett
