How good a price is $29 for 3/4"x4'x8' birch plywood (for kitchen cabinet carcasses). The stuff is really nice.

I get 60 bucks a sheet. Mine is an A-1 or A-2 grade with whole piece face and at least 7 ply. If it is "Chinese" birch it won't be as smooth and the face ply will be very thin. Make sure it has the ply's cause if it's "lumber core" or "particle board" core...you won't be happy.

Hitch, is that stuff from Home Depot? I bought a couple sheets awhile back, after some time, it started to delaminate. Becareful what you use it for.

Thanks guys. Yes, it's from Home Depot. I'll go back and find out exactly what it is for sure. It sounds to good to be true, but I have found good deals on stuff at this store before. The best deal was a couple of solid white mahogany doors - 6 panal exterior doors for $102 each. The wood has burled grain so it's probably from a rain forest somewhere, but what a deal that was. Anyway, I looked pretty close at the stuff and it looks really good. I knew there was more to picking plywood for a project like this, so I came to the pros for answers. Thanks Lee and Andrew.

My wife has some saying about I don't look for wood anymore, because it finds me.

Last year just before ducking hunting started I was in Menards (about the same as Home Depot/Lowes), for some reason I turned and walked down the hardwood aisle. Now at Menards, their hardwood is all planed and squared in predetermined sizes, wrapped in plastic. At the end of the aisle was the "junk" boards, I pulled out a piece about 6 inches wide and 6 feet long of curly black walnut, marked at 60% off, the "dept manager" offered to give me another 10% off if I took that ugly board and a similar piece of oak. I did and I left my card for him to call me if they get in anymore "ugly" board, which I think gave it away.

That ugly board is now a keep safe box for my sons treasures. He will hopeful always keep the box, I will always enjoy the story.
