is it worth haulin the layouts down to your neck of the woods yet????

been pretty warm, wonder if there is anything but educated locals there now

Hi George,
I have not had a chance to get out and do much scouting. We were in Muskegon all weekend, getting my truck worked on (my brother is ASE cert. grease monkey) and checking in on my Mom at the new facility and taking care of her bills. So....didn't do any hunting yet.
I'll be up at the lake house later today or tomorrow and will check.
Just the other day (there were a ton of birds right in front of the lake house. Could have easily "foot sculled" them. They'll be right around there when I get a chance to drop the sculler into the lake this weekend.
Later partner,
Lou

those look like "pets" --- lol

we hunted fletchers pond last weekend -- divers were just comin to the pond -- got a few -- enough to make the trip worthwhile -- cooked up some breasts with drambuie (i think that was your recipe ) -- they vanished post haste

Oh, yes............Drambuie thingy would be mine. Ya know, you don't even need those duck breasts when you're cookin' with Drambuie. ;)

How busy was it up at Fletchers? I've never had a chance to hunt up there. Glad you had a good time.

I'll tell ya, we have a ton of birds around there most of the time. We don't feed them but there are a ton of old world weedbeds that have been there forever. My wife's grandfather dug a 1/4 mile long trench out to open water to get the boat into the lake. That's when you stood on dry ground and cattails where we now have water. In fact, back in the 70's & 80's, we had 7 feet of water where the dock is. This lake fluctuates a lot.
The picture shows the weedbed trench coming out from where our dock is now.

its pretty shallow there -- with a lot of stumps -- in the middle its about 7-8ft. -- very mucky bottom as you'd expect

we were the only two layout boats there -- a few guys hunting from shore, but they had no effect on our hunting

we got BB's, red heads, ruddy's, a couple of lost mallards, and one "mixed breed" we couldn't positively identify -- more big divers than all last season in the bay

but------------------i guess they stop the flow into the pond and the level drops 2-3 feet so i guess if we want to go back we'll have to bring up some flatbottoms, or canoes
