Honkers are starting to show up.

I saw several flocks of geese pass high overhead this morning.



when I went to town to pick up a double that I had a recoil pad put on, I saw these geese in a friends pasture.



It may be time to put the layout blinds to work.



It was a good day to set in the truck with a spotting scope and look for banded birds in this short grass.

So did you see any metal?

On friday the last bird of a two man limit was locked up and on his way down. When the feet went out I saw something funny on it. Then a single shot, and a splash. I said, Jon that bird has a band on his right leg, unless I'm seeing something.

Sure enough...banded. I didn't shoot it, but I actually caught myself doing the band dance.

I've shot a lot of honkers since MD's season came back and that's only the second one I've seen.

Way to many geese here

There was no place to pull over to look at them for very long. I just stopped in the road to take these pictures.

Did you see my post below about Wilamina arriving on friday? She's a beauty and Wilbur is all excited.
