Hot spot on dog

My old lab developed a hot spot on her side a few months ago. I didn't think much of it but decided to take her to the vet to have it checked out. It turns out to be nothing serious. Vet thinks it was a scrape or something that became infected. The probelm is that she started chewing on it and it will not heal. We have had her with a cone on shame, a doghnut thing and have her wearing a shirt so she can't get to it. Every time it is almost healed up she finds a way to get to it. I have been putting a topical cream on it for dogs for the past couple months and she just did it again when we were so close to it being healed. Does anybody out there know of anythign that I gan get to put on it so it can heal faster an keep her from chewing on it. Open to any suggestions please!

I have a similar issue with Belle. The only thing that REALLY works is the cone of shame. However, her cone is now decorated with stickers and decals so she feels no shame. She willingly sticks her head in her cone.

I wish I had a better option but it is an ongoing issue I have with my girl. Right now she looks like a torture victim. It really does not take long for them to tear themselves up.

However....have you tried a spray that is disgusting but not painful? I think it is called YUCK. It works for some dogs....my girl LOVES it so that is not really an option for her. It might work for you though.

sulphodene really helped my old bird dog's hotspot issues.

It works on contact and it also happens to taste absolutely awful, so that kept him from licking at it.

Thank you both of you. I have been using sulfidine and it works well. The problem is if we forget to put it on. Always seems to be once it it almost healed and then she goes at it and we start over.. I was just curoius if anybody out there had any other ideas. It just takes one slip up on our part and she is back at it..... With the Cone she would go roll around and open it back up which is why she now wears a T-shirt to keep it covered all the time which is also helping. She puts it on willing but when we forget to put on the sulfidine she figures out how to get out of it.....

I put liquid bandaid spray then habanero powder on mine. Wife thought I was mean but it didn't seem to bother the dog until she tried to lick it ONCE! but you need to apply it every day til healed.
