Have picked up an older evinrude from my brother. How can you tell the year of motor from serial number? Need to find some parts for it, are there any good places online?
I went through this a number of years ago with an older Johnson where all I had was the serial number. No model number. When you figure out your model number and year go here.
This may not work in all cases but try this. This is what a mechanic showed me. Your serial number should look something like this: xxxxxXXx The XX indicates the location in the serial number for the last two digits of your date code. Follow this code:
1 = I
2 = N
3 = T
4 = R
5 = O
6 = D
7 = U
8 = C
9 = E
0 = S
If your serial number has "CC" in the location shown above your motor manufacture date is "88" or 1988. If it were "EE" it would be 1999. If it were "UT" it would be a 1973. Now as it was explained to me this only works for motors manufactured after 1968. If your motor is older than 1968 you'll have to contact Bombardier. If you need a factory service manual go here.
