Hunter, Angler, Gardener, Cook - Blog Vote

Hi folks,

The son of my neighbor has been writing a blog for a few years now called, Hunter, Angler, Gardener Cook. I think I posted a link to Hank's site last year sometime. Last year, Hank's food blog was up for a James Beard award. He lost out to a larger and more well known company. Hank's site is again up for the award this year, and folks are allowed to cast their vote for the blog of their choice. I thought I would post the email from his mum Nancy, and see if we can get a few more votes for Hank - check out the attached link to the blog, and then vote for Hank's site if you feel compelled. Hank has some great articles and recipes for preparing wild game and foraging for wild edible plants. Even if you don't vote, please spend some time on his site. You will be pleasantly surprised by what you find there.

Best,
Nate Grace

Hi!

I would appreciate it very much if you would take the time to cast a vote for my son’s blog, Hunter, Angler, Gardener, Cook. You can see his blog at www.honest-food.net/blog1/. He is nominated for the James Beard Award for best food blog. His competition is two blogs that are commercial and very huge. Hank’s blog is a private blog run by just him. He refers to his competition as behemoths. Hank was nominated last year for the James Beard Award and lost to Sunset Magazine which is also a commercial and very large enterprise.

Here is how to place your vote:

http://www.jamesbeard.org/blog/index.php/2010/04/awards-watch-readers-choice-round-two/

When site opens Click on: Hunter Angler Garderner Cook (Hank Shaw)
And click vote!

Its going to take a vote from everyone on this board plus some to catch the others. I did it though.
I have read his blog before its very good.

Nate,

Nice Blog-site. I looked at all three up for the award and I think Hunter, Angler, Gardener, Cook is hands down the best. Great variety and a passion for good food.

I agree, Pete. I am amazed at his knowledge and some of the recipes that he comes up with. Hank is coming out here in June to do some flounder and striper fishing with me for his new book that he is writing. He specifically asked if I knew places where one could catch fish from the shore, rocks, docks, piers, and bridges. I said, "Yup!" Looking forward to spending some time with him.

As a guy in the food business and passionate hunter and fisherman his site is a found gem.....thanks for passing it along. He has my vote and I am passing it along to several people.

Not just hunter, angler, gardner and cook, but someone takes some great photographs as well. Man that makes me hungry.
I tried to vote, but I couldn't figure out how. Any suggestions?

Yes, I think the voting is closed. Hank's blog may not win the James Beard Award, but I still think it is one of the best food sites on the Web.

Thanks for taking the time to vote and check out the site.

Sorry I didn't get to vote on time. It is a really interesting site. I passed it on to a bunch of friends and family.

Nate,
at first I thought you lived next to this guy. After I cruised around his site I went and voted and passed on the sight to a few friends. Good looking food and more than a few things to try. Thanks.
And again, lucky he is not right next door, or you might have to join Jenny Craig....... after eating all those photo shoot dinners.

Thanks guys. I know that Hank will appreciate it.

Yeah, if he lived next door I would probably weigh 50-100 pounds more than I do now. His mum is my next door neighbor. Super nice lady. She has a German shepherd that is probably one of the biggest dogs I have ever seen. If you put a saddle on him, you could probably ride him up and down the street! Nice dog too.

Hank is coming out here from California in June to do some fishing and take some photos for his new book. I am looking forward to meeting him. Just reading his blog has me thinking differently about food, where it comes from, how it is processed, etc. It would be nice to get "off the grid" a little more in terms of where we get our food. Either grow it, catch it, forage for it, etc. That would be a lot more healthier for the body, I am sure.

Best,
Nate
