I came across a fiber glass canoe today looks like it been used and abused. The hull is solid the cover over the bow is cracked but I have the other half and a seat needs to be fixed oh and it has the worst black over red paint job. But I believe with a little work this boat will be great for fishing and duck hunting. I'm sure there is other people who know what I'm talking about when see a boat and think what a shame to let that boat sit and decompose. Or you come along a boat that its to late for and you say if only I was a little sooner. I've always had a passion for boats and the water and now that I'm older and have more skills and tools I look forwards to each project and I can not wait to find the sneak box or poke boat tucked away in a back yard garage farm or where ever it is but for now canoes and old John boats I will have to practice on until the day comes I find my holly grale. Well I'm sure I'll be on here asking questions and I'll be ordering some more paint from lou's.

I, too, always have a "weather eye" on the lookout for vessels with "potential"....

BTW: I did pick up an old 'glass canoe recently that just might be beyond saving - but it could still be used as a male mold for a new 'glass hull....

I am glad that you rescued that old girl. Here living in Michigan with the Great Lakes
surrounding us There are alot of these old wooden hulls like Chris Craft, Owens, Lyman sitting dry docked at the marinas abandoned waiting for someone to rescue them and bring them back to life.

Dumpster diving finds are best.... thats where most of keels come from.

This is the only picture I took of the canoe. Once I finish up my current project I will start on her and post pictures during the voyage. A little side not i have a sit on top kayak I aquired from a friend it doesnyt have any rod holders or anything like that on it so at some point ill be adding a few of those. From what I see on YouTube I can finish that off in a night, im not to worried about it but if anyone has any advice on what mounts I should or should not get that be great. I plan to do the crate as well with a few rod holders on that.But thats for a latter time. I'll be sanding away in the garage tonight prepping for the warm weather to do some painting.

Here is my latest "free boat" - I picked it up right after Thanksgiving. It is an AeroCraft - about 15 feet LOA.

It's been patched (crudely) so many times, I'm not sure the 'glass is sound. So, it may just become a mould. I like it because it has no external keel - so it won't fetch up on gravel river bottoms or almost-submerged trees in swamps. Right now, it's resting comfortably in the "marina" with other dream boats....

BTW: I upload my photos to my Photobucket account (free download). Then I just copy and paste (full-size) into either posts or pm's.

I try not to get to many projects going at once. But I can't help but take a sander to the canoe and see what lies under the paint. Luckily I can only fit one boat in my garage at a time.
