Ice out

I know the ground hog saw his shadow on feb 2nd so they said 6 more weeks of winter... but I saw 3 redhead drakes and one hen on my pond that day... Redheads trump ground hog.... 6 weeks till spring....

Well ice out here in sw michigan for about three weeks now... well at least on my spring creek pond... I have had common golden eyes, redheads, mergangers, canadian geese and the local mallard every day since the warm up three weeks ago... in the next several weeks I'll see thousands of migrating ducks... Geese...

7.5 months till the season opener.... can't wait

Well Rich, the fat lady hasn't sung here song on our waterfowl seasons here in NY state. Our last Canada Goose Season opens for 10 days tomorrow with a limit of 5 a day. It is darn cold out though. We will be laying out tomorrow morning in the single degree temps. Snow goose season is still open and they have started to show up in huntable numbers about a week and half ago, but the massive push is yet to arrive. NY state has a new spring snow goose season starting March 11th through April 15th this year with unplugged guns and e-callers.

Were a month and half away from ice out. We are so sick of snow we sent some down to Alabama.... It will melt faster down there.... Below zero again this morning.

All I know is I barely made it home to AL from Memphis, TN last night with all the snow in the air and on the road. Southerners don't know how to drive in any kind of precipitation and there were several cars in the ditches. I never knew how hard it could be to drive in the snow... the stuff don't stick to your window but it just is heck on visibility!

They already had roughly 3 inches in Cordova, TN when we left around 5:00 PM and we had a nice coating on the ground this morning in AL. That's a "good snow" for these parts.

You are going to have to travel further north than Tennessee to find the real truth about driving in the snow. How about trying it in cold enough temps that it is freezing to your windshield and the wipers and defrost heat can't keep it cleared.

Just when my hopes were getting high for an early spring and finishing my BBIII build, here comes old man winter. We are expecting 8"-14"s of snow tonite into tomorrow. I am gonna have to get up in the middle of the night to clear snow off the tent that my BBIII is in or it will collapse under the weight of all that heavy snow:(

I guess I should have said I didn't know how hard it was to drive in "anything but rain" but believe me... that's considered a "winter storm" here. I bet there wasn't bread or milk in the nearest grocery store within 200 miles. :)
