It is good to see that someone besides myself constantly thinks about going duck hunting. I sure enjoyed looking at your pictures.

great shots. Very good to see what the ice looked like while the temps over on this side of the sound have been up in the high 80's.

Cool boats. What are they? Like the low profile. Do you hunt out of the cockpit as a 1 man deal layout?

The shot of the rigs tied up reminds me of a picture in the paper from the early part of the century when a guy from the New London side took a car across the sound to Fishers Island. Would have needed a serious ice breaker to get out then.

Great pics I am so pumped for this upcoming season. Can't wait to hunt my new sneakbox I am sure everyone else is counting down the days too. I have an app on my phone that counts down the time till opening day down to the milliseconds. But who's counting? 91days 19hours
 
Nice pics....I sure am getting antsy to set some decoys! One day my wife will understand....right now she is still searching for a cure...lol

They are a Baur boat made in freeport LI (not many made) and the first pic is a SouthBay which is the most populare duckboat where im from (It is the best all around duckboat for the marsh PERIOD!)
 
Nice rig! Nothing breaks ice like a v bottom garvey. I worked the bay for a living in the 60s&70s, great life lot of good memories. Have a 20 foot chincoteague built by stillwagon back in the late 70s doesnt get a chance to break much ice down here in florida, but my son caught a 15 and a 25 pound dolphin out of it today. Thanks for the pictures and the memories. If my memory serves me well I would say that looks like copaigue, amtyville shoreline? Rich

I have been admiring the south bay boats for some time,what in your opinion makes them the "best"? I have read that they are a wet ride,what say you?

Best in my area......not the best everywhere. Any boat is wet if you go too fast in rough water, you gotta slowdown and get the bow up in sloppy conditions I never had a problem. My dad has had the boat since the 1970's they are specifically designed by a local longisland hunter for our waters and needs, and will float in 3 inches of water fully loaded. Every boat has is pro's and cons but for my style of hunting it is the best, 8 out of 10 hunters in my local area hunt from southbay duckboats and get home safe year after year. The worst boat to be in on the bay would have to be a Johnboat, now thats a wet dangerous boat......
