Lake St. Clair - Canada Side

Looks like I will be taking my mother up to Michigan next winter to visit with her aunt. I am looking into trying to hunt anywhere from 1-3 days on Lake St. Clair on the Canada side for the generous limits on Canvasbacks. I have killed 100's of them in my career, but it's only been one at a time and I think this would be a unique type hunt for myself.

Has anyone done this hunt? Any recommendations on areas or guides to look into?

Thanks
Matt

Hi Matt,
There are a couple good guides over there. Josh White is excellent and he always donates a hunt to our carving club (auctioned last weekend). I don't recall his contact info but I can get it if you need or you can google him. Another fella is Rob Stanley...a character but he knows his stuff. He has an ad on page 13 of our club's Show Brochure/Program and you can download that right from the club's website: www.scfwa.net
We've got a place on the lake on the American Side (in New Baltimore) and can put you on birds but we no longer guide.
Holler with any questions.
Lou

If you want a DIY hunt please let me know by PM. I have hunted there a few times and can give some tips. (wink) With the season fast approaching I don't think I will miss hunting Long Point but I know I am going to miss Lake St. Clair. Alberta has it's own opportunities but the late season shooting won't be the same.

If you want to hire a great guide who happens to be a really nice guy contact Blair Ellison. Blair's website is http://stclairducks.com/

Lou, Rob Stanley certainly is a character but he sure can put clients on ducks. :)

This photo was from a memorable solo outing.

Thanks for the info guys! I would love to do the hunt myself, but bringing all the gear needed to do so will not be feasible for this trip. I might try and hunt both sides if time permits.

I may be able to help. We have a house in Mitchells Bay and spend a lot of time there. It depends on when your going to be in the area but feel free to shoot me a pm and we'll see if we can hook up.
