Last Day of 2012

We had one more chance to say good bye to the ducks today and we took it. It has been a great season putting 3 boys on to ducks in a big way. They have seen the good flights now and each has had his chance to get a bird in a real close, decoyed right on the X, kind of way. Getting them all started in low blinds has been a real eye opener to me. The birds just dont flare like they do when you sit on the shore or in a boat blind.

Today would not have mattered. The forecast was for a duck hunt to remember. Just like Chet paints it. It was all there.

The snow. The 20 degree air temp. The wind out of the NE and picking up as the morning went on.

Trying to get a set up done and then ferry the dads and the kids to the spot makes a hunt about 8 times harder than normal. But when one of them says to you through the shivers at the end, he dosnt want to go, you know you have a kid Hooked!

The tail gate shot today could have been a monument to the old days if we had not had company close by. But the shooters all hit birds and they all want the season to keep going. Deal! Back here next year, same time, same place. Cross your fingers for a little duck weather.

Picking up.

Shivering but rewarded.

Good deal Bob, I also had a father/son combo out this morning, and they had a blast out in the storm. Mallards sure do get stupid in the snow, we had them coming in to an open water diver spread! Funny thing was the boy was more excited about his first diver, a hen bufflehead haha....It was (finally) a perfect weather day for waterfowling!

Hi Bob. I really like those pics, especially the first one where it looks like the dogs ears are flapping in the wind!

What a great season!

I got chattering teeth just looking at the first photo.

Good for you guys, now start figuring out things for next season.

Dave,

I probably shouldn't correct my host but on that final count, it was 3 wigeon and add a buffy. Great morning on the bay, from the 4 mile, wet and icy run out in darkness to the snow and ice covered ramps take out, it was a blast! Wonderful way to switch seasons, from can shoot, to getting ready for next season.

Wendell it was a pleasure, as always, even if we get talking so much I don't listen to the GPS. Take lots of pictures of the canvas mallards as they come along.

Dave, thanks so much for the invite!

Scott

Dave & Scott, thanks for the invite, had a great time. Dave, hope your hands have warmed up from the cold, wet start. Glad that one of us in the boat could shoot yesterday so I finally got to see a wigeon!

I know my age is talking for me now, Bob. That looked so cold when I was checking out your pictures, that I went and got a cup of coffee. I'm glad everyone was safe and had "duck hunting fun"! Next season is just around the corner.

Wigeon!
you guys are sure on the ball. I have only seen those twice and never hunting.

Very Cool.

Saturday was one of those days. A good thing for the Journal to look back on in a few years. The sideways snow always makes it for me.

Bob

Glad you guys had fun in the snow. I was painting the apartment that I'm moving into on Thursday.

Scott , Wendall ,

I also had a great time maybe Butler can join us more next year !!! Wendall thanks for all the help with the plug mishap , and Scott thank you for pulling the ark up that hill !! Good times for sure
