layout/diver questions

I just found this board and let me say it is awesome! I know I am new here but I had a few questions and I was wondering if anyone could help me out. Any insight is greatly appreciated!

I do a fair amount of seaduck/diver hunting and I have heard of guys using flags. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck using flags? and if so, do you use a flat black flag or do you use a black/white flag?

Also I have thought about trying to build a couple layout boats. Has anyone attempted this is? And what would be the best/easiest plans to use to build one? I hunt in both protected bays and some open water so I was looking for a boat that would do both. I have a bigger boat to tow/carry the boats out so they dont need to be able to be powered. I have built 2 sneakfloats and a 20' CC so I am pretty confident in my fibeeglassing abilities. Any ideas would be awesome!

I have looked the Boat Specs section of the page and there is awesome info on there about layout boats. Anyone who has used these boats or plans and has any suggestions I would love to hear from.

Here is a link to a few pictures reguarding layout hunting. Te Mighty Layout Boys have their own web page and make the layouts pictured. The discussion of safety that followed is a good one. Cold water/wind and seas all add up to one great hunt, but they also are very unforgiving to the first mistake. Not trying to discourage you, just giving a new seaducker an honest description of the dangers.
Bussick also has plans for a home built layout.

I have tried flagging divers quite a bit in the past and never noticed any difference. As far as building a layout, a buddy and I built a couple 5 years ago. We used plans from Paul Busick. The plans are pretty simple. Personally, with whats available, their weight, and prices I cant say I'd build another boat. I guess I got spoiled by my old MLB
