LI travel help

Looking for a little help with trailing my boat through LI. I'm looking to go down to point lookout from 495 and it looks like the meadow brook parkway is the only way south but I believe you can't trailer on any "parkways" Is there a access road or trailer lane I need to drive on to get there?

Thank you
Dean

You are correct that trailers are not allowed on "parkways" in L.I. Hopefully John Ferguson will chime in and help you out.

My experiance has been that trailers on Parkways on Long Island are fine as long as you repeat "oh shit" over and over again until you get off the parkway. Worked for me, but YMMV.

Simple,go out to exit 44 on LIE
take rt135 south to Rt 27 west (Sunrise Hwy)
that will bring you back to Freeport and Point Lookout.
You can take a trailer South on Pkwy from Sunrise Hwy or Merrick Rd.

PS: your Dad's name wouldn't be Al would it..?

I would be hunting for brant or puddlers. Mostly it gives me a chance to hunt on sundays and extends my season another week.

You're only allowed to use a trailer on certain parts (i.e. between certain exits) of parkways that lead to a boat ramp. Quite logical, when you think about it, as how else could people get their boat to the ramp.
You probably have to get onto Meadowbrook from the southern-most point (i.e. from Sunrise hwy (Rt 27)).

Oops, I didn't see Geo's response, when I responded.

That's how I've gone. You may already know this, but the toll with a boat trailer for the Geo. Wash. Bridge is $22 (only going into the city) and the Throgs Neck Bridge is $9.75 each way.

He John,
He's coming from Ct. He wont be using the GW bridge.
You shouldn't using it either coming from upstate, take the Tapanzee , It is ceaper then the GW and it is much less taffic then the GW for sure

I thought that may be the case from CT, but just an FYI for anyone thinking of attempting it.

I used to take Tappan Zee all the time, but then I would always hop on the highways when I got down by the city.

Since I started trailering I just did what Mapquest said. Time-wise it's been about the same. But I've been lucky with the traffic, probably since I come through at odd hours.

Someone said I should try tappan Zee and then take the Major Deegan when I get down to NYC.

Stay off the Major Degan, that forces you onto Cross Bronx, you dont want that rough POS road
stay on 287 to 95 south for the Throggs Neck

It was said before, but you can use the meadoww brook pkwy s of sunrise hwy just make sure in youre return trip you get off at sunrise !! Good Luck John
