Local hunters boat capsizes

They are lucky to be alive. Two guys in a 10' boat in December on a big river, in PA, what the hell were they thinking????

Glad they survived.... but, yes - what were they thinking??
The men were planning to go deer hunting on Davis Island, according to KDKA........
Deer are not currently in season, according to the Pennsylvania Game Commission.

they were thinking no one would know they were poaching deer out there and the shots would be duck hunters....

Forgetting the fact that they were deer poachers, the scenario could have easily been duck hunters in the same situation. Many duck hunters, myself included, overload boats and take on water that is sometimes too much for our rigs. This is the 4th or 5th similar posting recently with someone ending up in the water. We should all take a lesson and try to be more careful. I know I have decided this year after hunting with friends in RI that I will always wear a pdf when under power.

Unfortunately this is all too common, some years ago i was astonished to see 4 hunters in a 10 to 12' jonboat motor by my spread with about 3" of freeboard we watched anxiously as they crossed the ohio river and disappeared around a bend. Never read anything so i guess they made it.
Bill.

The guys I like are the ones paddling solo from the stern seat of a canoe with no weight in the bow. The bow is often completely free of the water, and they wonder why it's so hard to turn the canoe into wind. Might as well put a sail up there! A canoe is mighty easy to tip when the load is centered over the narrow part of the hull instead of the nice wide middle.

The one I saw last weekend wasn't wearing a life jacket, and came very near taking a swim in 40 degree water.
