I'm trying to find a lower unit for my yamaha. Does anyone know if 1999 yamaha 50 hp 4 stroke is compatible with a 2003? Can't find out anywhere

Like Dave McCann said, you need to dig into the diagrams and compare part-by-part what is in the Lower Unit (Lower Casing in some Yamaha diagrams) of your "recipient" motor vs. the Parts that are in the motor that is donating the Lower Unit. It is a bit tedious to do this analysis but this needs to be done in order to assure success. If you run into any further questions (or if you don't want to do this analysis but are willing to trust the advice of someone you have never met) then get a logon setup to iBoats forum and post your question in the "Yamaha and Suzuki Outboards" forum. There are lots of folks willing and able to advise you there.

Glenn, you're welcome. BTW I should mention that the forum members on iBoats are really nice and genuinely want to help even the newest beginner. There is one guy who is a little grouchy and can be a bit condescending at times especially when people fail to follow his advice. But hey, it's free advice and usually "spot on"! Be careful though, you might get hooked following along on some of the problems that get solved there.
